Dynamic Metric Layers visualize metrics from your portal as interactive heatmaps in the Explore view. There are two main ways to interact with Dynamic Metric Layers – the Explore mode and the Search mode. To switch between the two, select the appropriate mode in the “Dynamic Metric Layer” section on the left side of the screen.

Dynamic Metric Layers – Explore Mode

The Explore Mode will enable you to view metric data for Census Tracts, Counties, States, and the entire US based on your zoom level. To view a metric in this mode, select a metric from the dropdown shown below and click on a geography on the screen to view its value for the selected metric.

To view a different geography, simply zoom in or out on the map and click a resulting geography to see its value for the selected metric.

Dynamic Metric Layers – Search Mode

The Search Mode will only display the top or bottom geographies for a given metric. You can select the metric you would like to view, as well as the extent at which you’d like to view it, using the “Ranking” and “Extent” dropdowns in the Dynamic Metric Layer tab.
