While using the Explorer tool, you can display Marker Layers to visualize different types of data.

Site Layer

The Site Layer function allows you to overlay any group that exists in your portal on the map. Click the Group Layer dropdown within the Markers tab and scroll to select your desired group to display. Groups uploaded by any user in your portal will appear in this list. To learn more about creating groups, click here.

Hospital Data

The Hospital Marker Layer includes data on hospitals in the US. When enabled, Explorer will display all hospitals within the viewing window of the target geography. Each hospital is denoted by a red cross icon. Click on any icon and a pop-up window will appear, giving you information regarding the facility such as hospital type, average payment information, death rates, and readmission rates. All hospital information is obtained from CMS.

Pipeline Insight Data

Pipeline Insight is a product which displays Senior Housing-specific construction project information sourced from Dodge Data & Analytics. To activate this layer, click the “Pipeline” box under Standard Markers. Each construction project will be represented by a construction cone icon on the map.

To learn more about a construction project, simply click its icon on the map to bring up a box containing this project’s data.

Competition Data

This Marker Layer displays the supply data that is available in your portal, including Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Skilled Nursing Facilities. The data presented to you comes from one of two sources, VisionLTC’s Supply Data or the supply data you provided (i.e. via your NIC MAP subscription).

Each facility is represented by a colored house icon and is labeled with its majority product type, so if a facility offers 100 AL beds and 50 IL beds, its icon will be AL. You can choose to filter your results by product type (i.e. IL Properties or MC Properties), which will limit your results to facilities that have at least one existing bed or construction bed of that properties. By clicking on any of the competition icons, you can get information about that facility, including name, address, product mix, owner/operator (if available), open year (if available), and much more. The facility-specific data will appear in the Supply Detail pane on the right side of the screen and will disappear if you uncheck the Show Competition Data marker layer.

If you are a Reis API user, you will not be able to see Reis data displayed in Explorer, because of restrictions in place on the API. Explorer will only display information from VisionLTC’s supply file or from the supply data you provided (i.e. your NIC subscription).

Retail Data

The Retail Marker Layer shows locations of 20 different upscale retail chains across the country. This list includes Target, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Lululemon, and Nordstrom. Each store is denoted with a unique symbol. Select any symbol and a pop-up will appear with the store’s location and contact details. All information about these retail stores is imported from their respective corporate websites.

Dementia Prescribers Data

The Dementia Prescribers Data Marker Layer displays all the physicians in the US that have prescribed one of six dementia medications to a Medicare patient. Each physician is represented by an icon. Clicking on an icon will display who the physician is, where their practice is located, what medications they have prescribed, how many prescriptions they have written, the cost of those prescriptions, and with how many Medicare patients they have worked. All prescriber information is collected from CMS.

ACO Data

The ACO data layer provides Beneficiary, Expenditure, Quality, and general information about ACO facilities across the nation. Each dot on the map represents an ACO facility, and clicking it will bring up data for it, as shown.

SNF Readmission Rates

The information showing for Skilled Nursing is pulled from CMS’s Skilled Nursing Facility Value-Based Purchasing Program. The marker colors are based on the SNF Readmission rate.

University Data

The University Data Marker Layer displays general information for accredited higher education institutions, sourced from the Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs.

COVID-19 Data

The COVID-19 Data Marker Layer shows data for total confirmed cases, deaths, and new cases by county.

COVID-19 Facility Data

VisionLTC’s COVID-19 Facility Data displays a nationwide dataset of Senior Housing facilities with confirmed cases of COVID-19. Clicking on one of the red icons will display some high-level information about that particular facility, as well as an excerpt and link from the source used to confirm the case(s) at that location.

In addition to displaying facilities with confirmed cases, this data layer is also able to visualize relationships between a facility with COVID-19 cases and others that have had common visitors in a trailing 14-day period. Each orange triangle icon that appears when clicking on a confirmed facility represents another community that had a common visitor with the confirmed community. This data is gathered using Audience Insight, a tool which tracks Mobile Advertising ID (MAID) location history against geofences around a database of Senior Housing facilities nationwide. Clicking on one of these orange triangles will show details about its relationship with the confirmed facility, including the number of visitors and visits in the last 14 days.
